Lowest fare by month · recorded since May 2026

Each bar is the lowest round-trip total we recorded that month. Months marked “—” are still being recorded — we started measuring this route in May 2026 and add a month only once we have the data, rather than estimating a full year.

Before you book

Flying New York to London, plainly.

The most-flown long-haul corridor in the world, and it behaves like it: seven or eight nonstops a day from JFK alone, most leaving in the evening and landing early morning UK time. Around seven hours eastbound, closer to eight coming back against the jet stream. Because capacity is enormous, fares move on demand rather than scarcity — which is why our lowest measurements cluster in shoulder weeks rather than far in advance.

When to go

January and February are consistently the cheapest months to fly and the least pleasant to arrive in. Late spring and September balance weather against price. Avoid the fortnight around Christmas, when fares roughly double and the desk fields more change requests than any other week of the year.

What US passport holders need

No visa for stays under six months, but since 2025 you need an ETA — an Electronic Travel Authorisation — applied for online before departure. It is inexpensive and usually approved within days, but it is not issued at the border. Apply before you fly.

Worth knowing at the airport

Heathrow is five terminals and the transfer between them is not quick; check which one your carrier uses before the return leg. Gatwick, Stansted and City are all genuine alternatives on a connection — if a one-stop itinerary via Dublin or Lisbon saves meaningfully, it usually lands at Heathrow anyway.

Asked at the desk

New York to London, answered.

How long is the flight from New York to London?

Around 7 hours eastbound nonstop, and closer to 8 hours on the return against the jet stream.

What is the cheapest month to fly?

Of the months we have measured since May 2026, August has produced the lowest round trip at $462 including all taxes. We add months as we record them rather than estimating a full year.

Do I need a visa?

US passport holders do not need a visa for short stays, but do need an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) applied for online before departure. It is not issued at the border.

Do the prices shown include taxes and fees?

Yes. Every fare we display is the total including all government taxes and carrier charges. Note that UK Air Passenger Duty makes the London-origin direction noticeably more expensive.

Is the fare guaranteed when I submit a booking request?

No. A booking request is not a confirmed ticket. Your card is stored securely when you submit it, but nothing is charged and nothing is held. An agent takes payment at the moment your e-ticket is issued, typically within 4 to 8 working hours.

Measured fares are history, not offers. The fares on this page are the lowest our desk has recorded, with the date each was seen — they show what the route has cost, not what it costs right now. Search above for live fares. Fares are not guaranteed until ticketed. Payment is taken only when your e-ticket is issued, typically within 4–8 working hours.
